- Dec 19, 2012 · The service interval for the belt is 105k, but you have to replace the idlers, tensioner, and water pump at some point too. What is likely is that one of those other things failed and took out the belt. I had it happen on my old Subaru but that was before they were interference engines so after a new belt and water pump I was back on my way.

- Dec 21, 2019 · Timing belt or chain: The 2010-2012 Outback with the SOHC 2.5L 4-cylinder engine (Model EJ253) has a timing belt. Subaru calls it a Camshaft drive belt. According to the maintenance schedule for the 2011 Outback, it's recommended to be inspected every 30,000 miles and replaced at 105,000 miles.
- Dec 31, 2001 · Hmm, brodie, rather you than me- my local diesel specialist had an LT 2.5 in a while back that the Dealer had given up on. Even with the factory manual, he had grave difficulties with the timing marks. IIRC, there are two sets on just about everything, the flywheel mark doesn't really line up with the crank pulley mark.

The camshaft sprocket alignment mark is visible through the opening in the front distributor housing cover just above the distributor cap.
